BRACKNELL GETS GOLD!

30 June 2010

The team at Bracknell Regeneration Partnership is celebrating after they were awarded a prestigious Gold Green Apple Award, from the Green Organisation at a glittering ceremony in the Tower of London.

The Award recognises organisations that can demonstrate the effective measures they have introduced for environmental benefit and is proof that the initiatives introduced by Bracknell Regeneration Partnership really are making the town centre more environmentally friendly.

The Award centered on the town centre Recycling Initiative. This scheme was introduced amongst businesses in the town centre in 2006. Since then retailers have recycled an amazing 260 tonnes of cardboard, equivalent to approximately 32.5 double decker buses*. This is an incredible annual reduction in total waste of 42%.

In April, Bracknell Regeneration Partnership expanded the scheme, launching new recycling bins in Princess Square so that shoppers could help the town become greener. Visitors have been avidly recycling their newspapers, plastic bottles, fizzy drinks cans and glass on a daily basis ever since.

Helen Barnett, marketing manager, Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, commented: “It was amazing to discover that we have been awarded the highest accolade from the Green organisation.

“The Gold Green Apple Award shows that the efforts of local businesses and visitors alike are contributing towards making Bracknell a greener and more pleasant place to live, visit and work. I am thrilled that all the hard work has been rewarded.”

Bracknell Regeneration Partnership operations manager, Ronnie Kendall was also awarded with a ‘Sustainability Award’ from in the DTZ National Property Management Awards 2010 for his help in implementing and managing the green initiatives in Princess Square.
