BRACKNELL IN BLOOM SPRINGS TO LIFE

04 May 2010

Fragrant flowers will soon adorn Bracknell town centre as the ‘Bracknell in Bloom 2010’ campaign launches on May 13.

Both senses of sight and smell will be pleasantly stimulated as Landscaping team’s spring into action to plant and display the brightest of blooms throughout the Borough. While creative floral displays will be flaunted throughout Bracknell town centre.

Bracknell in Bloom was launched in 2002 as part of the Council’s commitment to protect and enhance our environment and to give the town’s Britain in Bloom entry a strong identity. Since then, Bracknell in Bloom has gone from strength to strength, and each year it continues to brighten up the town centre and its surrounding towns through the planting of trees, shrubs, flowers and vegetables.

The campaign is organised by a committee formed of Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, Bracknell Forest Council and Bracknell Town Council. It also has a whole host of supporters, including the Bracknell Standard, Syngenta, Bracknell market, Bracknell Forest Homes, Ringway, Homebase and Bracknell Gardening Club.

Making a bid for Gold in the Thames and Chilterns regional entry in the Britain in Bloom competition, the Flowers Committee have developed a red, white and blue colour scheme. The team is confident that Bracknell in Bloom 2010 will be a year for the Royal Horticultural Society judges to remember.

Last year the result was not only a Silver Gilt Award, winning the small city category, but also the regional award for Best Floral Input.

So there’s a lot to live up to as Helen Barnett, marketing manager for Bracknell Regeneration Partnership comments: “Bracknell in Bloom is such a wonderful initiative but it serves a greater purpose than just making the town look beautiful.

“It brings together the community in gardening projects and encourages people to spend time outside in their garden and try their hand at growing flowers or vegetables. Bracknell Regeneration Partnership is delighted to be main sponsor and form such a vital role in this borough initiative.”

David Harris, landscape manager at Bracknell Forest Council, adds: “The landscape team at the council puts a lot of hard work into making the borough look beautiful and cared for all year round and Bracknell in Bloom forms a pivotal part of what we do. I am really looking forward to seeing the bright floral displays across the town centre and borough this year.”
