Go Green for Eco Day

05 May 2010

Bracknell and District Friends of the Earth will be opening pop-up shops in both Charles Square and Princess Square to let people know more about renewable energy, sustainable transport, energy conservation and recycling.

There will also be gorgeous Fairtrade gifts and delicious Fairtrade treats for sale, as well as recycled products on offer to shoppers.

Eco Day is particularly pertinent as Bracknell Regeneration Partnership has recently learnt that the town centre has won a prestigious Green Apple Award for its Recycling Initiative.

The Bracknell Town Centre Recycling Initiative was introduced in 2006 in a bid to make the town more environmentally friendly.  To date the scheme has recycled an incredible 260 tonnes of cardboard, an annual reduction in total waste of 42% and after only three months a total of eight tonnes of plastic has been recycled.

To add to the success of the recycling scheme, Bracknell Regeneration Partnership will be launching fantastic new recycling bins in Princess Square. Visitors will now be able to recycle their morning newspapers, plastic bottle, fizzy drink cans and even glass with ease.

Helen Barnett, marketing manager, Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, commented: “We are thrilled to be hosting Eco Day in the town centre.  This coupled with the announcement of the Green Apple award shows that Bracknell is conscious of climate change and really can make a difference.  I hope that shoppers and visitors to the town centre will find lots of information and advice on offer.”
